Alternative Research Methods Grant

Grant Information

CREEES is offering grants for Stanford Ph.D. students whose research plans have been disrupted by the war in Ukraine.  The grant will support alternative research methods, such as the hiring of local researchers in Ukraine and Russia to conduct directed archival work, the digitization of archival materials, or other alternative methods that will grant students access to sources necessary to their dissertation research.

Eligibility 

This grant is available to students enrolled in a Ph.D. program at Stanford University who are conducting dissertation research and who are not able to access necessary materials and sources due to travel restrictions to Russia and Ukraine.

This grant is made possible by funds raised in celebration of the career of Norman Naimark, Professor of History.

How to Apply

To apply, complete the Stanford Off-campus Learning Opportunity application, including:

  1. Alternative Research Methods application form
  2. A budget of project expenses (Excel format)
  3. Statement of research (instructions on the SOLO application)
  4. One letter of recommendation from Ph.D. advisor

Please note: Recipients are required to submit research reports upon completion of their research.
