CREEES announces the Helena Brandt Visiting Scholar Program

The Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies (CREEES) is thrilled to announce the Helena Brandt Visiting Scholar Program, which will bring annually to Stanford an eminent scholar of East Europe. During their residency of up to a month, the visiting scholar will deliver a public lecture and engage with affiliated students and faculty in seminars and workshops, while also pursuing their own research using the rich holdings of Stanford University Libraries and the Hoover Library and Archives.

This program, made possible by a generous gift from Helena Brandt, will help to further institutionalize East European studies at Stanford. In addition to the annual visiting scholar, the program will support the organization of other events focusing on current trends in the field and timely topics in the region.

“This program is instrumental to securing a strong and lasting presence of East European studies at Stanford,” said Amir Weiner, CREEES director and associate professor of history. “Generations to come will benefit from this addition to the CREEES program that Mrs. Brandt’s generosity has made possible.”

CREEES looks forward to welcoming the inaugural Helena Brandt Visiting Scholar when in-person events become possible in the future.
