CREEES Alumna Sarah Cameron Awarded Honorable Mention for The Hungry Steppe at ASEEES 201

This November, Sarah Cameron (CREEES MA 2002) was awarded an Honorable Mention for the Wayne Vucinich Book Prize for her first book, The Hungry Steppe: Famine, Violence, and the Making of Soviet Kazakhstan (Cornell, 2018). The Hungry Steppe also won the Association for the Study of Nationalities Joseph Rothschild Prize in Nationalism and Ethnic Studies and the Southern Conference on Slavic Studies Book Prize. Russian and Kazakh translations of the book are forthcoming.

Cameron was recently promoted to Associate Professor of History at the University of Maryland, College Park. Cameron was also featured on the front page of the August 2019 ASEEES NewsNet newsletter for her article “Kazakhstan after Nazarbayev: Changes for Researchers.”
