In October 1969, Stanford University formally designated the “Committee for Russian, East European and Communist Studies” as the Center for Russian and East European Studies, recognizing the leading research, graduate training and outreach, and institutional structures in the field that had emerged at Stanford over the preceding decades. As part of the celebration of its 50th anniversary this fall, CREEES will feature a series of four films from the year of its founding - 1969.
