The 8th edition of the Romanian Film Festival at Stanford, with support from San Francisco State University’s Cinema Department, will take place on April 21, 22 and 23, 2023. This year the focus is on a selection of films reflecting the everchanging landscape of our reality and the events that continue to shape the artists within and outside contemporary Romania. The Romanian Film Festival continues its series of interdisciplinary and comparative discussions on the realities of Eastern Europe in today’s globalized world. This year’s edition entitled " Stories in Motion: Chartering paths in Romanian Cinema" brings a selection of Romanian films representing student shorts and the most recent feature films from accoladed filmmakers.

The program includes: RMN director Cristian Mungiu, Men of Deeds director Paul Negoescu, Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn director Radu Jude. The special guest is writer/director and film professor at Columbia University - Bogdan George Apetri, who accepted the invitation to participate at our event, with both his recent award-winning feature films Unidentified (2020) and Miracle (2021). Also, a guest this year is student filmmaker Theodor Ionita with his latest student short film My sister and I.


The festival is presented by the 
Department of Cinema, San Francisco State University, in conjunction with Stanford University, with additional support from the Honorary Consulate of Romania in San Francisco, Dana Beldiman – Honorary Consul General, George Roth – Honorary Consul,  Allan B. Cruse – Professor Emeritus University of San Francisco,  Casa Romana – Bay Area Romanian Community,  Recognos Inc.,  Schendel Films and University of Theater and Film ”I.L. Caragiale”, Bucharest, Romania and ICR New York.
