H.E. Lilit Makunts, philologist and politician, currently serves as the Armenian Ambassador to the United States. She previously served as Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia and she was elected Member of the National Assembly and served as majority leader, head of the “My Step” faction in 2019. H.E. Makunts also worked a Senior Lecturer at the Russian-Armenian University and Educational Project Coordinator and Lecturer for the Academy of Social Democracy, Friedrich Ebert Foundation, in addition to serving in the US Peace Corps (Yerevan) between 2016-2018. H.E. Makunts holds a PhD in Philology. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Yerevan State University, where she studied Romance and Germanic Philology. In addition to Armenian as a native language, H.E. Makunts speaks Russian, English and German.
