Information & Inquiries

Scholars with outside funding may apply to be appointed as unpaid Visiting Scholars at CREEES. Commonly, such scholars arrange for a living stipend from their home university or from an organization such as Fulbright, IREX, or the Social Science Research Council.

If selected to join CREEES as a Visiting Scholar or Fellow, candidates will be invited to participate in the Center's activities. All Visiting Scholars receive borrowing privileges at the Stanford University Libraries, access to the Hoover Institution Library and Archives, and shared office space with other Scholars.

To be considered for a Visiting Scholar appointment, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Visiting Scholars must be visiting from, and have an ongoing affiliation with, an outside academic or research institution or organization.  The individual must have leave from the academic or research institution where they hold an appointment which will not expire prior to expiration of the Stanford appointment.
  2. Visiting Scholars must have a doctoral degree at time of appointment or recognized research-related expertise in their field.
  3. Visiting Scholars must have a source of financial support from outside Stanford University.
  4. Secure a statement of support from a CREEES-affiliated faculty member who is willing to serve as the Visiting Scholar's faculty host.
